Comments for CRUISE SHIP VS. BATTLESHIP:

Totally awesome! Being that I am in the Navy and permanantly forward deployed in Japan, this really is a perfect metaphore. The people who are offended by it's message are the cruise ship types. I'm sure they also think that the 'church' is a hospital to nurse wounds instead of a 'boot camp' to train saints to go out with boldness, love, knowledge, courage, empowered by The Holy Spirit and unashamed. We are fighting for the Kingdom of God and for the souls of man.

Such a jolly occasion to meaninglessly gather under a substituted, once a day of hypocrisy. That is what the increasing number of fake Churches are. Spot on Guys!, We all are in a Spiritual battle-ship, one that doesn't have four walls, a puppet and a misused roof. That ship, is inside you...

I'm impressed by not just the comparison, but the words used as well. This video like the spiritual battle metaphors in scripture may help us continue the seperation of wheat from chaff. May all of us heed the warning inherint within and give God the glory that is due by our service. Sean Crow Chaplain Candidate, Idaho Army National Guard

this speaks to the heart of the problem of the church today. the church has a form of Godliness, but denies the power of God. so many churches appeal to the flesh, not to the things of the Spirit. this is a war for the soul of man and we must put the things of God first or our efforts mean nothing. maranatha!

"Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." Ephesians 6:11 A person only puts on armor when they are preparing for or going into battle. All Christians fight this battle every day when (if) they die to self and allow God to work in their lives. Hence the battleship metaphor is right on. Nice job Igniter.

@scott Cole thank you for that comment, i'm newly saved, but through the holy spirit even i got a grip on whats going on and people need to stand up for what is real, and was is an illusion

As a Second Class Petty Officer in the US Navy, I appreciate this and agree whole-heartedly. We are in a Spiritual battle and we need to get out of our comfort zone and into the trenches to face off against Satan and his tricks....God bless

Well Done! If the devil is not attacking you (ANOTHER MILITARY TERM) you are not performing your calling. When you DO what God has called you to do, the devil gets angry(er)! We are definately in a battle. To say we are not is to not see the enemy and you are lying to your people and yourselves. Wake up church! Make your stand for Heaven! Give everything you've got! Jesus did.

I loved it and cannot for the life of me understand why one would take offense to the "war" theme. I think it might be that the modern church is not even aware that we are in a battle continuously. Have we forgotten how to "suit up" for battle? It's not about how comfy we are in the seat at church, it's not about being entertained. It's about getting knowledge of God and becoming well prepared to do His work here on earth. Just a thought. :)

The only thing I see wrong with this - is all the honor goes to the Lord and to God. Good video, however.

Hahahahahaha!!! Robert Cox you are indeed the man! I love it. This is a FANTASTIC metaphor. Anyone thinking we are not in a battle is enjoying a nice luxurious ride on that cruise ship. Jesus was NOT a wimp and was far from "peaceful" with pharisees and other builders of religion instead of relationship. Matt 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.
John Robot
I agree with the "grossed out" comment. I just wish that Gaven and I were around when Jesus walked the planet so that we could have straightened Him (and the Holy Spirit) out before they foolishly used so many similar "gross" analogies.
Robert Cox
Good stuff... seriously. I agree it's not only a challenge or potential reality check for the pews but for the pulpit as well.
Troy Sing
For you brave men who preach the Word on Sunday this speaks to your heart doesnt it? For all those cruise ship pastors this may offend you. Gary Glanville Northwest Baptist, Reisterstown Md.

I cringe at the "war" thing too... I like the "institution" vs. "outpost" metaphor better; maybe even attractional vs. missional. Some call it the Club Med vs. Fed Ex model. Club Med is all about pampering it's entitled members; Fed Ex is all about getting the package delivered where its needed. My 2 cents. Enjoy. Mark Bushor http://thejourney.typepad.com

Perhaps the analogy would be better served by a ship whose mission is to bring its passengers along to discover a new land/world (Kingdom of God) than a battleship.

What's up with questioning the battle metaphor for the church? Have we forgotten Paul's extensive use of military metaphors?!!!! The Christian life is not a playground; it's a battle ground! See Eph. 6 among many others.

Jesus clearly said that he came to destroy the works of the devil. People who live in circumstances where all is going well often don't see the need to engage in a war with the devil. Come over to Africa and see how people are bound by the devil - maybe the analogy will make more sense then!!! Arnold - Johannesburg

pretty much grossed out that the church is associated with such a clear war metaphor. this is a horrible analogy all across the board.

The players on the field desperately needing rest vs. the people in the stands desperately needing exercise. The orphanage keeping people cared for vs. the school training them for life, are two more metaphors worth pondering. Pastor Rick Sams Alliance Friends Church

Very well done. I've sat here at my desk and watched this 5 times in a row, never growing tired of the challenge this video gives. Awesome! And I agree with Joel. Where can I get the music for the battleship sequence? That is incredible!

I think today's carnage tells it all. God is Captain of Heaven's Armies. This is not a cute little commercial, it is a wake up call. The country club lasts for a season, but boot camp prepares you for life. Thank you and God bless.

Nice portrayal! My church is actually both. I'm so grateful I'm in it, because I couldn't have picked a better captain than the Savior Jesus Christ. The people in it try so hard to be Christlike, the leaders are always in the look out for me and my children to be prepared and able to identify the pirates that will come and litarelly destroy us... To be prepared for the storms of life, and to always wear the armor of God. Lisseth Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

A rescue boat is not enough of a metaphor... once they are rescued... found redemption... what next? The battle is on... "the thief comes to steal and destroy". The cruise ship/battleship is a wonderful analogy. It explains what we are really in church for.
Dianne Lumsden

Really? A battleship? So the Church is about battle? I thought it was about redemption. Wouldn't a rescue boat be an even better metaphor?
Ben Matthews
Great video. What music is that that was used for the battleship sequence? It's the perfect song, it made we want to suit up and go tear down a stronghold.

As a pastor of 24 years in one and working with my Dad who founded out church 44 years ago, I have never seen a clearer illustration of what the Church of The Lord Jesus is all about! Production is awesome, as usual. But as a Canadian, I just don't connect with the battleship idea, not sure it would connect in our church. That said, I still think it's a great tool and very, very well done.
